Packing Smart and Staying Connected

When it comes to travel, staying connected, entertained, and prepared is all about the right tech. Whether you’re working remotely, capturing memories, or just trying to make your journey more comfortable, the right gadgets can make all the difference. Packing electronics for a trip can seem daunting, but with the right selection, it can be surprisingly easy. Here’s a rundown of what I bring to ensure I stay powered, productive, and entertained while traveling.

Chargers, Cables & Adapters

First up, chargers and cables. Of course, this is a no-brainer. I always pack multiple chargers for my devices and extra cables to make sure I’m never caught without power. Adapters are also essential when traveling internationally, so I keep a set that works with most outlets. A good universal travel adapter can save you a lot of headaches in foreign airports and hotel rooms.

One of my favorite travel gadgets is the solar-powered charging block. This is essential when traveling to places where access to outlets might be limited, or if you’re exploring remote areas. This portable charger is powered by the sun, making it ideal for hikes, beach days, or any outdoor adventures where you need to keep your devices charged without relying on electricity.

Entertainment Essentials

iPad, Kindle & Laptop

For entertainment, I bring my iPad (which is small and portable), and it’s great for reading, watching shows, or catching up on emails and work. I also pack my Apple Pencil for sketching ideas while on the go. If I have more time on my hands during a layover or while waiting for a flight, I bring my Kindle loaded with books. If necessary, I’ll also bring my laptop to stay connected or get some work done while traveling. No matter where I am, having these devices with me helps make long waits, flights, or downtime more manageable.

Sound Solutions

Noise-Canceling Earplugs

Let’s be real: sleep can be a challenge when you're traveling, especially on long flights or in noisy airports. To help ensure I get some quality rest, I rely on Bose noise-canceling earplugs, which play soothing sounds like rainstorms and ocean waves. They’re a total game-changer when trying to sleep in a loud, unfamiliar place. It’s one of those essential travel items I can’t live without.

Headphones and Speaker

For noise isolation, I opt for over-the-ear headphones. I have TMJ, so I can’t use earbuds for too long or I’ll get an earache. Noise-canceling headphones are essential for dealing with the chaos of public spaces like airports and airplanes. They allow me to block out all the ambient noise, making everything from listening to podcasts to enjoying music or a movie much more enjoyable. I also love to bring a portable, clipable speaker for when Benjamin and I go on hikes or are simply resting on the beach.

Bluetooth AUX Adapter

A Bluetooth AUX plug-in is one of my travel must-haves. It’s a simple device that lets me connect my Bluetooth headphones or speaker to an older system, whether it's in a rental car or hotel room. This simple tool is a lifesaver when it comes to ensuring I have entertainment on the plane, especially when I forget to download entertainment prior. Make sure you test these beforehand, though. I have had a few poop-out on me.

Camera Gear

As a content creator, I always pack my camera equipment to document my travels. My essentials include lighting, microphones, a tripod, and a trigger clicker. I also bring a stabilizer to ensure smooth shots while filming. To capture some unique footage, I bring my drone and a SD card phone adapter for drone footage. It’s the perfect combo for creating engaging content while traveling. I also carry a POV necklace for hands-free filming when I’m exploring or doing something hands-on. A rechargeable reading light is another packing essential. It’s small, lightweight, and perfect for nighttime reading or working in dimly lit spaces. It’s especially useful in hotel rooms where the lighting might not be the best.

Packing electronics for travel doesn’t have to be overwhelming, it’s all about making sure you have the essentials that will keep you comfortable, productive, and entertained while on the go. Whether it’s charging your devices, capturing your journey, or ensuring a good night’s sleep, having the right gadgets can make a HUGE difference.
