Day 2

Deep Dive into Art and Architecture

Thursday, February 8

9:00 AM Salone acme

After a short bus ride, we found ourselves at Salon ACME to kick off day two. Housed in a historic mansion in Juarez, the venue itself was an experience. The peeling walls and exposed bricks made more of the art feel like site-specific installations, like the gallery itself was a part of the story. It was one of those spaces that made you feel like you were part of something bigger, part of the city's art evolution. This was one of my favorite stops of the trip. I may be biased because of the cool architecture making every find a discovery while exploring the intimate spaces throughout the building but there were a lots of cool pieces. Just a few of my favorites in no particular order were;

  • Floresta Psicotropical by Ezequiel Black x Rosas Ek Balam

  • Victoria Núñez Estrada x Sala:GAM

  • Night Garden
    healed by guadalajara90210
    Guadalupe Salgado

  • Chandelabra by Alan Hernández

  • Tragar Sapos. by Cristina Umaña Durán

  • Blason 2 by Miguel Rodríguez Sepúlveda

  • Self Driving Freedom by Otto Martín Moreno

12:30 PM Lunch break

For lunch, we dined at Páramo, more tacos (obviously I hadn’t had my fill yet) and coffee to keep me going, I needed it as I was definitely getting my ten thousand steps in on this trip.

3:00 PM Zona Maco

After lunch, we dove into Zona Maco, so huge it needs to be housed at the convention center. It was everything an art lover could want: eclectic, vibrant, and alive with creativity. I even had the chance to see some of Marion Friedmann's Gallery, Futuro Desierto, and a little Disney Home, which were notably dreamy and fun.

7:00 PM Dinner dreams

After another long day of exploration, we wrapped up with Dinner at Taverna was nothing short of divine. Located in the same building as Salon ACME, it is a modern blend of rustic charm and sophistication, combining contemporary Mediterranean dishes and adaptively reused architecture. Don’t even get me started on the beet dish. I’m still dreaming about it. This, the hummus, and a few margaritas to cool off from all the art-induced excitement made for a truly memorable evening. While others continued to the Salon Acme VIP Party, I found dinner to be the perfect way to end the day and headed back to the hotel.
