Day 4
Ended on High Note
9:00 AM – Museo Tamayo
We wrapped up our whirlwind trip to Mexico City with an unforgettable visit to Museo Tamayo, and let me tell you, it was the perfect finale. Museo Tamayo, designed by the brilliant Teodoro González de León, is a masterpiece in itself. The architecture is a bold statement, with its clean lines, geometric forms, and vast open spaces, allowing the museum to host some truly giant art installations. As I walked through the large, airy spaces, I couldn’t help but think how beautifully the museum married the architecture with the art it housed. The expansive central hall provided the perfect backdrop for massive contemporary art pieces that demanded attention and space.
This museum didn’t just showcase the art; it allowed the art to breathe in its own space, offering a dynamic, immersive experience. There were large-scale installations that challenged my perception of space and the boundaries of the artwork itself. One piece after another, an abstract fusion of texture, another with color, a third simply its proportions, almost overwhelming in the best way possible. All made me want to create something equally bold of my own.
After soaking in the art, (as quickly as possible I ran to the souvenir shop as we were running short on time. I treated myself to a few delicious souvenirs, a few Mexican chocolate bars, wrapped with vibrant, colorful packaging that I couldn’t wait to tear open when I got home. I also grabbed another Mexico City architecture guide because, obviously, since I had the one for Guatemala, I needed the one for Mexico City. This way I can figure out what I didn’t see on this trip and plan for the next! I mean, there’s always more to explore, right?
Gratitude and Final Thoughts
I can’t wrap up this journey without giving a heartfelt thank you to Fountainhead, more specifically, Nicole Martinez (Associate Director) and Francesca Nabors (Program Manager), who made this experience possible. Their meticulous planning and passion for art made every moment of this trip unforgettable.
From the amazing Salon ACME to the awe-inspiring Casa Barragán, every stop was more than just a visit—it was an opportunity to learn, engage, and be inspired. Thank you to Fountainhead for creating such a rich, immersive experience that I’ll carry with me for years to come.
